2021 Winners

Judge Gary Francis, former Chief photographer of the Kent and Sussex Courier said:

"There are some good images once again this year and the two winners I have chosen certainly stand out due to their composition. I would have liked to see more entries in the junior section, but understand that it has been a difficult time. Congratulations to the winners and runners up and well-done everybody for their entries. Please keep on taking lots of photos. Never be afraid to take too many now we have the benefits of digital photography".

Adult winner - St Peter’s Church Cemetery by Karen Churcher.

The photo of the Southborough Church Cemetery is the winner in the adult class. It immediately caught my eye with its arched framing and the sun just peeping over the church wall. Nicely composed and atmospheric lighting.

Adult runner-up-Southborough allotment by Astrid Clifford.

It shows a nice bold foreground but still manages to lead the eye into the photo towards the background. Also, it is a nice tightly composed image.

Junior winner - The Old Oak Tree by Oscar Sanders aged 13.

Nice composition looking up the trunk of the tree and it has a slightly sinister feel to it. The image also shows good textures with moss and plants clinging to the bark.

Junior runner up- Cricket on Southborough Common by Oscar Sanders aged 13

This is certainly a different perspective on a much-photographed scene and a strong focal point of Southborough. Not sure if it was taken with a "fish-eye" lens but it does show the curvature of the image. There is a nice balance between land and sky and the photographer hasn't made the common mistake of splitting the picture into two definite halves.
