This year saw a much more varied take on locations and compositions which was very welcome. We hope these wonderful images will inspire others to get their cameras out and document Southborough and High Brooms for 2023!
Adult Winner (Early Grey Shopfront): A multi layered and flattened composition where the former bank building is superimposed onto the shopfront of the popular tea-room. Through the reflection two aspects of the high street have been creatively documented. The photographer made a good choice to work in black and white to focus the viewers attention more keenly on the textures of the objects which read almost as a Victorian still life.
Adult Runner-Up (Viaduct Shadow): The bold and curvaceous shadow of the tree projected on the side of the viaduct is the real focal point in this photograph. The irregular silhouette from the branches contrasts well with the strong uniformity of the viaduct, with the top part of the shadow almost blending in with the shadow of the arch.
Highly Commended (Hand & Sceptre at Night): Highly Commended (Hand & Sceptre at Night): A photograph which shows the great technical ability of the photographer; balancing different light sources at night can be challenging. However, it has been captured perfectly here with the streaks of light trails from the traffic, the starburst effect on the lights from the Hand & Sceptre and the illumination from the interior lights.
